The East River Walkway has been partially closed at 89th Street for safety precautions. We are working to reconstruct the site, and NYC Parks personnel will be posted at the site to ensure public safety.

Fort Totten Visitors Center will be closed Sunday, August 22, due to the dangerous conditions predicted as an effect of Hurricane Henri.

Fort Washington Park

The Fort Washington Pedestrian Bridge, or "Amtrak Bridge," at West 180th Street is open to the public. The width of the bridge has been narrowed for safety reasons. Bikers will be asked to dismount their bikes to cross the bridge. An active capital project will fully repair the outer support structures of the bridge and restore it to its original width. Gertrude Ederle Recreation Center

Red Hook Recreation Area

We're reconstructing the running track and converting soccer fields 3-5 and ballfields 1-4 from natural turf to synthetic turf. Starting July 6, 2021, this site, including the track, will be closed to the public for the duration of construction (approximately through spring 2023). Red Hook Recreation Area

NYC Parks is committed to making sure all parks are safe and healthy environments. Parks is continuing to work with EPA as they test the Redhook Ballfields for contamination. In the interim, we expect softball/baseball fields 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be closed until a clean-up plan is completed, and soccer fields 1, 2, 6 and 9 will be tested further.

Riverside Park South

To ensure safety during upcoming overnight construction in Riverside Park South, we will temporarily direct cyclists from the greenway to the park’s waterfront pedestrian path between 59th and 72nd streets on weeknights (starting at 8:00 p.m.). The temporary reroute is expected to begin the evening of Monday, July 19 and run for approximately 2 weeks. Learn more

Vesuvio Playground

Due to issues with the facade of a nearby building, Vesuvio Playground is partially closed until further notice to maintain public safety. Most play equipment is closed, however, the spray shower, picnic tables, swings, sport courts, and comfort station remain open. Please use the entrance on Thompson Street to access the playground.

West 79th Street Boat Basin

West 79th Street will close for reconstruction and dredging as of November 2021. The project will repair storm damage, add capacity, and make the site more resilient to climate change. The site is anticipated to re-open in 2025.

West Harlem Piers

The kayak launch at West Harlem Piers is closed indefinitely for repairs.

Due to a major planned reconstruction project, Pier 1 at the World's Fair Marina is currently closed. Limited transient dockage is available for smaller recreational vessels - please contact the Dockmasters office at 718-478-0480 or VHF Ch71 for more information. There is no dockage available for larger vessels or commercial vessels, including passenger pick-up and drop-off. We apologize for any inconvenience.
